Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Hey there, folks! Today, I want to talk about something that's been bugging me for a while: the lack of women in the tech space. It's a serious problem, and we need to do something about it.

Did you know that women make up only 25% of the tech workforce? That's not just unfair, it's also a huge waste of talent. So, what's the problem? Why are there so few women in tech? Well, there are a lot of reasons, but I think one of the biggest is that women are being silenced in meetings by men. Here are some examples from the web up to 2021:

  1. Manterrupting: When men interrupt women and take credit for their ideas.

  2. Bropropriating: When men steal a woman's idea and present it as their own.

  3. Mansplaining: When men explain something to a woman in a condescending or patronizing way, even if she already knows it.

  4. Gaslighting: When men deny women's experiences or feelings and make them feel like they're crazy.

  5. Stereotyping: When men assume that women are less competent or knowledgeable than men, just because of their gender.

But here's the thing: these behaviors are not just wrong, they're also counterproductive. When women are silenced, everyone loses. We miss out on their insights, their creativity, and their leadership. And that's why we need to do something about it.

So, what can we do? Well, there are a few things:

  1. Speak up: If you see a woman being interrupted or ignored, speak up and make sure her voice is heard. Allies can help amplify the voices of those who are being silenced.

  2. Practice active listening: When you're in a meeting, make sure you're listening to everyone, not just the loudest voices in the room. Be open to hearing different perspectives and ideas.

  3. Create a safe space: Make sure that women feel comfortable speaking up and sharing their ideas. Create a culture of respect and inclusivity where everyone feels valued.

And lastly, let's celebrate the women who are already in tech. They are pioneers and role models, and they deserve our recognition and support. So, let's work together to create a more inclusive and diverse tech industry. It's time to put an end to #FarTooFew.
